L’Azienda Agricola Zanchi nasce nel 1970, quando Licurgo Zanchi, acquistò un antico casale sulle colline di Amelia, in Umbria. Nel terreno incolto da anni che circondava la casa, resistevano alcuni filari di viti ed olivi secolari che, con molta pazienza e grande cura, recuperò ottenendo da subito dell’eccellente vino ed un gradevolissimo olio. Nel passare degli anni, il figlio Leonardo con la moglie Annamaria, hanno trasformato la passione di Licurgo in una moderna azienda vinicola, ristrutturando le cantine e potenziando la coltura dei vitigni autoctoni tutti selezionati e riprodotti da marze provenienti da vigneti locali. Pioniera della vinificazione sulle colline di Amelia, la famiglia Zanchi, alla terza generazione con le figlie Flores e Flaviana ed il genero Mario, ha creato negli anni le etichette più rappresentative di questo territorio, esaltando le caratteristiche dei diversi vitigni, come il Ciliegiolo vinificato in purezza, il Grechetto e l’Aleatico, ma anche la Malvasia, il Trebbiano e il Sangiovese traducendoli in vini dalle caratteristiche uniche risultato della continua ricerca in vigna ed in cantina.
Le Cantine Zanchi si trovano in uno dei contesti paesaggistici più amati dell’Umbria, sul percorso della Strada dei vini Etrusco Romana, a due passi da Amelia, città chiusa da possenti mura poligonali che una leggenda narra costruite dai ciclopi. Simbolo della romanità della strada, la grandiosa statua di Germanico custodita nel museo locale. La visita alle Cantine Zanchi è un'occasione per scoprire questo territorio ancora poco noto, passeggiare per i vigneti o scoprire il boschetto dei daini che affianca la cantina. È possibile effettuare visite guidate ai vigneti e alle cantine e concludere con ladegustazione dei vini, olio e grappa, accompagnati dai prodotti tipici dell’Umbria. Gli ospiti sono accolti nell’area destinata alla degustazione, tra le rocce millenarie e gli oggetti del piccolo museo del vino.

Le visite e le degustazioni si possono effettuare tutti i giorni, escluso le domeniche ed i giorni festivi, previa prenotazione telefonica o via e-mail almeno 3 giorni prima della data della visita.


Azienda Agricola Zanchi was started in 1970, when Licurgo Zanchi purchased an old farmhouse in the Amelia hills, in Umbria. In the fields that surrounded the house, obviously untended for years, a few rows of ancient vines survived, and some centuries-old olive trees. With great patience and attention, he brought them back into production, and they yielded an excellent wine and a most appealing olive oil. Over the years, his son Leonardo and wife Annamaria transformed Licurgo's sentimental project into a modern wine operation; they re-structured the production cellars and increased the focus on indigenous varieties, selecting only genetic material from local vineyards. With their background as pioneer winegrowers in the hills of Amelia, the Zanchi family have now reached the third generation, with daughters Flores and Flaviana and son-in-law Mario. Over the years, they have crafted the wines that are most representative of their local growing area, wines that showcase the qualities of the local grape varieties, such as Ciliegiolo as a 100% varietal, Grechetto and Aleatico, but Malvasia as well, and Trebbiano andSangiovese. The Zanchis transform these grapes into wines with uniquely distinctive characteristics, the result of ceaseless research in vineyard and cellar. The Zanchi winery is located in one of the most scenic and beloved landscapes in all of Umbria, on the route of the Strada dei vini Etrusco Romana, the Roman-Etruscan Wine Road. It lies just a couple steps from Amelia, enclosed within its massive polygonal walls, which legend has it were constructed by the Cyclops. The majestic statue of Germanicus in the local museum is eloquent testimony to the pervasive Roman character of the road. A visit to Zanchi’s cellars is an opportunity to discover this still little-known area, to stroll through the vineyards, or to appreciate the deer-filled woods next to the winery. Guided tours may be arranged of the vineyards and cellars, concluding with a tasting of the wines, olive oil, and grappa, accompanied by traditional Umbrian food specialties. Visitors are received in atasting salon boasting millennia-old rock walls, as well as a small wine museum.
